We're certainly not complaining about the glorious weather: summer is finally here. But we mustn't neglect our bodies, because the heat can quickly do us more harm than good. So I scoured the web for advice on how to cope with the heat. Here are the ones I've picked up!
Drink hot drinks
Yes, I know it sounds paradoxical, but do as the Bedouins do and drink very hot tea, which will make you sweat and regulate your body temperature.
Put your sheets in the freezer
Here's a tip that made me laugh! Either I have a small freezer or I have large sheets but I can't imagine doing it. I have to admit, though, it must be divine to lie in cold bed linen!
Visiting cool places
My family and I have to admit that we visit a lot of churches in the summer. The weather is great and, whatever our beliefs, the architecture is always worth a visit. During a trip to Lisbon, we even had a chat with a lady who came to do her mail and accounts in a pretty little church, in the peace and cool! Incredible!
There are also air-conditioned shops and museums! Did you know that there are some cooler underground museums in Brussels? The sewer museum (having visited the one in Paris, it's really interesting!), or the Palais du Coudenberg, an underground tour of Charles V's palace. Visit smart!
Staying hydrated
Unlike the Bedouins, I prefer to drink something cool when I'm hot. Lemonade, iced tea, not too sweet. Eating water-rich foods (fruit such as melon, watermelon, strawberries, etc.) is a real asset.
Are you familiar with our range of iced teas, such as the Pêche de Vigne Iced Black Tea? Each Terre d'Oc iced tea comes in a glass that can hold the perfect measure for the perfect taste. The different glasses are funky, modern and designed for tasting iced tea.
They are made from tough tempered glass, the cork lid is made in Portugal and the dishwasher-proof lacquering makes this glass a must-have for your summer!
To freshen things up, I've recently put a range of stackable ice-cube moulds in different shapes on our e-shop. They're easy to remove from the mould and the lid protects them from freezer odours. They're great for keeping cool. But I also like the big ice cubes in the shape of footballs, golf balls or basketballs! Very original and just one is enough!
Finally, if you're going out, take your cold drink with you thanks to the isothermal water bottles,
That's what they're there for!
Ventilate yourself
Let the air circulate, but not at the hottest times of the day - that's when you need to seal yourself in to keep the house cool - but as soon as you can, you need to circulate the air. For that, there are electric fans, but also fans, very colourful, to slip into your bag, for the underground, the bus, the terraces! For fans of pop culture, we have the Akatsuki Naruto Shippuden fan. It's designed to look like a traditional Japanese fan, with motifs and illustrations inspired by the world of the Naruto Shippuden anime. It features the clouds of the members of the organisation.
The Sailor Moon & Chats fan also resembles the traditional Japanese model, with motifs and illustrations inspired by the world of Sailor Moon. It features Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi, Luna & Artemis.
For work, plug the Kikkerland USB desk fan into your computer and surf the net with your hair blowing in the wind! Just make sure your envious colleagues don't steal it...
Eat ice cream
OK, so this isn't really a tip, it's just a pretext for indulgence. However, by making your own ice creams or sorbets, you can keep the calories down for maximum freshness. You can even get younger children to eat them! All you need are silicone moulds like the Krelle or Malik models from Liewood.
A super-simple strawberry ice cream recipe? You'll find it here! You'll find everything you need to know on the internet. My advice? Avoid recipes that use food colouring. With good seasonal fruit, there's no need to add chemicals!
Have fun and enjoy the sun!
